The Chief Medical Officer for England has published guidance that makes it clear that an alcohol free childhood is the healthiest option and if young people do consume alcohol it should be in moderation and always under parental guidance or supervision. The evidence demonstrates that if parents and young people follow this guidance the health of young people can be protected now and in the future when they become adults.

Objectives

  • To improve knowledge about the nature and extent of young peoples’ drinking
  • To  examine the CMO’s Guidance On The Consumption of Alcohol by Children and Young People
  • To consider how parents and carers can be supported to influence their children’s alcohol consumption.
  • To identify support services for young people and their parents and carers
