How To Effectively Engage Young Drug Users

Many young drug users find it difficult to engage with workers whose role it is to support them. What concerns might young people have about communicating openly with workers? How can workers develop trust and rapport so that young people feel they can engage and get the help they may need?

This workshop will explore these issues and focus on practical strategies that workers can use to engage and support young drug users. It will draw on the ‘Drugs and Me’ package that is published by HIT, was developed through action research in Young Offender Institutions and provides a structured programme for effectively engaging young drug users.
