The My Drug Use Tool (and the My Drinking Tool, available separately) will allow your workforce to address young people's substance issues in a standardised and consistent way.
Current UK policy advises that agencies should set up effective mechanisms to identify young drug users in order to direct them to appropriate support services.
This tool has been developed for use by people who have contact with young people but who do not have specialist drug misuse knowledge (i.e. tier 1 and tier 2 workers).
These forms are not an assessment of the young person's substance use but will indicate when specialist advice and referrals might be needed.
There are two types of form, one exploring a young person's alcohol use and another exploring their drug use. Each form also gives harm reduction information for the young person to take away.
Packs contain 50 forms for use with young people, plus five explanatory sheets which set the scene, give useful definitions, give advice on using the tool and provide information on the factors contributing to young people's alcohol and drug use.
