This course explores the best ways to work with someone who is feeling suicidal, it will explore the effect that drug and alcohol use has in relation to suicide.

Learning Objectives:

  • Explore the statistics for suicide in England
  • Understand depression and other mental health problems and how they are linked to suicide
  • Look at drug and alcohol use in relation to suicide
  • Become skilled at knowing the risk factors and warning signs for suicide
  • Know what to do and what not to do if someone is suicidal
  • Learn to employ non-judgmental listening
  • Find out how to respond to and help a suicidal person
  • Explore the best ways to look after yourself when doing this kind of work
