Advanced Drugs Awareness

Those working in generic services (Tiers 1 and 2) need to have a good understanding of the complex nature of problem drug use in order to provide support to those who may need, or are receiving, drug treatment.
 
This two-day course is for workers whose roles may touch on drug misuse but who provide non-specialist interventions. The course takes an in-depth look at: the causes of drug problems; the challenges of working with problem drug users (using documentary video); the preparation and injection of heroin; smoking crack; what interventions are available; and provides an overview of treatment modalities delivered at Tiers 3 and 4.

  • To understand the effects, risks and consequences of drug use
  • To gain insight into the rise of Novel Psychoactive Substances
  • To gain an overview of psychosocial interventions and treatment modalities for problem drug users
  • To enhance skills in identifying drug problems and reducing harm
